What is 1dollar1mile?

I created 1dollar1mile.com in 2011 when I registered for my third LIVESTRONG Challenge event. See, I had two years of fundraising for the Lance Armstrong Foundation under my belt and each year I had a different marketing campaign. 2009 was the year of “Donate $1 and Ask 5 Friends to do the Same”. While this did have viral success, I learned that no one (literally, no one) would simply just donate ONE dollar. So, in 2010 I asked people to “Give up $5 for the Fight”, which was successful balance of asking someone for more than a dollar, but still an feasible amount.

In 2011, I wanted to do something bigger and bolder so I had the (brilliant) idea to to commit to riding a mile for every dollar that was donated to me. And thus, 1dollar1mile.com was born – a website I created for fundraising, to obtain sponsorships, and blog about all things biking.

How ‘Bout Those Miles?

I’m happy to say, that in 2011 I raised $4,305 and am still (yes, still!) riding off those miles. As of January, 2012, I’ve practically ridden 3K of those miles and will keep on spinning those pedals until I’m finished. All of my miles and cycling events are tracked on my ride logged here.

The 2012 Pocketbook Challenge

My goal for 2012 is to put my money where my mouth is. I’ve fundraised for the Lance Armstrong Foundation for the past 3 years and it because of my loyal donors that I’ve had continued success. This year, I’d like to reach more donors than ever and will personally contribute $4 for each donation over $20. Think that sounds crazy?
